Statement on Gov. Sununu's State of the State

CONCORD, N.H. – In response to Governor Chris Sununu’s State of the State Address, Michele Merritt, President and CEO of New Futures, a health policy and advocacy organization, released the following statement:

“New Futures and our many advocates are pleased to hear that Gov. Sununu shares our concerns regarding some of the most critical issues facing New Hampshire, including health care and the ongoing addiction epidemic,” Merritt said. “Specifically, we were glad to hear Gov. Sununu express support for reauthorizing the state’s Medicaid Expansion program. Expanded Medicaid is saving the state millions of dollars, while providing quality, affordable health care to more than 50,000 Granite Staters. Bipartisan support will be critical in making sure this vital program is reauthorized this year.”

“Expanded Medicaid is our number one tool to fight our addiction epidemic, with over 23,000 individuals using the program to access life-saving substance use disorder services,” continued Merritt. “We applaud the Governor’s recognition of the critical roles that health care plays in supporting our friends and neighbors, and we look forward to continuing to work together to make New Hampshire an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.”

New Futures is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that advocates, educates and collaborates to improve the health and wellness of all New Hampshire residents through policy change.
