CONCORD, N.H. – This afternoon, New Futures, a health policy and advocacy organization, released the following statement in response to the amendment proposed to SB 313, which would reauthorize New Hampshire’s Medicaid Expansion program. The amendment, released today, proposes a variety of funding sources, including the state’s Alcohol Fund.

The following statement is from Michele Merritt, New Futures’ president and CEO.

“New Futures is continuing to review SB 313 and the proposed amendment, but we remain fully committed to reauthorizing Medicaid Expansion and ensuring access to quality, affordable health care for all Granite Staters. We have no doubt there will be many changes to this bill as it moves through the legislative process, and we don’t know what the final product will be. What we do know, and what we have always known, is that Medicaid Expansion is the single most important program we have to keep New Hampshire residents healthy.

"New Futures is also committed to protecting the integrity and original intent of the Alcohol Fund, which supports critical prevention, treatment and recovery services to the people of New Hampshire. Since its inception in 2003, the fund has been continually underfunded and redirected. It remains a critical tool in the battle against the ongoing addiction epidemic.

"Both of these programs are essential to the health and wellness of our state. We look forward to continuing to work with Governor Sununu and leadership from both parties to ensure these two important tools remain available to the people of the Granite State.”

New Futures is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that advocates, educates and collaborates to improve the health and wellness of all New Hampshire residents through policy change.
