TAKE ACTIONPermanently Banning Hemp-Derived THC Products

In 2023, New Futures worked in support of a bill that prohibited the sale of gummies, vape canisters, and any other products containing hemp-derived products containing THC, like delta-8 and delta-9, for one year. This bill was signed into law last July.

SB 505 looks to keep these dangerous and unregulated products off shelves in New Hampshire permanently.

About the Bill

Due to a legal loophole, hemp-derived THC products known as delta-8, delta-9, and delta-10 were sold in New Hampshire until October 2023. A 2023 law banned the products for one year, meaning that without more legislative action, the products could return to shelves in October 2024. SB 505 looks to permanently ban these dangerous and unregulated products.

Bill Status

SB 505 passed the Senate unanimously in late March and crossed over to the House of Representatives.

Although a non-germane amendment to the bill was introduced in the House Health, Human Services, and Elderly Affairs Committee, the committee voted “inexpedient to legislate” on the non-germane amendment and passed the bill in its original form.

On May 23, the House of Representatives passed the bill in a 242-124 vote. Governor Sununu signed the bill into law on July 3, 2024, and it immediately went into effect.
