In 2023, New Futures played a pivotal role in the passage of landmark legislation known as the System of Care for Healthy Aging. The System of Care is a multi-faceted plan to promote healthy aging and provide meaningful service options for older adults, including the ability to receive long-term supports and services in the home. Going forward, it is critical that the System of Care for Healthy Aging is fully implemented and funded.
Why It Matters
New Hampshire ranked last in New England and 24th nationwide in providing supports and services for older residents and individuals with disabilities. As New Hampshire ages, the need for affordable, long-term supports and services including home care options will increase.

Our Impact
The New Hampshire Alliance for Healthy Aging (NHAHA) Advocacy has been working since 2014 to prepare communities to create a more age-friendly New Hampshire. Between 2017 and 2021, NHAHA Advocacy successfully advocated for $16.5 million in funding for the Choices for Independence (CFI) home and community-based services program. In 2023, NHAHA Advocacy and New Futures championed landmark legislation that established a statutory framework for a System of Care for Healthy Aging. This historic legislation was backed by funding: $1.7 million for the System of Care for Healthy Aging; $15.1 million for CFI; and $110.2 million to boost Medicaid reimbursement rates.
