Description

New Futures is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, detail-oriented Community Engagement Coordinator to engage, mobilize, and train individuals and organizations to advocate in support of its health and wellness policy priorities. New Futures is a nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy organization that works to improve the health and well-being of all Granite Staters through public policy change and civic empowerment.  

The Community Engagement Coordinator will work with the New Futures Community Engagement Team, contracted partners, and stakeholders to identify, engage, and mobilize individuals to act on legislation. This position will also assist in the coordination and presentation of New Futures advocacy trainings for partners and individuals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, recruit, train and build relationships with individuals interested in New Futures policy priorities, and support advocates in testifying, writing letters, making phone calls, having meetings with legislators, speaking at events, and other actions on New Futures policy priorities.
  • Lead grassroots engagement efforts in assigned policy issue area(s) to bring forth community voices in policy decision making; implement engagement plan to support New Futures campaign advocacy priorities using digital and traditional engagement methods.
  • Effectively utilize New Futures advocate database to support engagement strategies, including maintaining advocate data and actions and reporting on results.
  • Identify and attend relevant community meetings and events as a representative of New Futures; provide legislative updates and opportunities to take action on New Futures policy priorities.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with coalitions and organizations with their own turn-out base.
  • Convene partners around specific collective advocacy opportunities.
  • Work closely with New Futures Communications Staff to communicate with advocates via social media, targeted emails, and other digital methods.
  • In partnership with New Futures Policy Staff, coordinate advocate turnout on specific policy issues.
  • Collaborate with New Futures staff and partners to organize public education and advocacy events such as roundtables, legislative breakfasts, in-district meetings, film screenings, panels, and tailored advocacy training opportunities.
  • Support and staff scheduled New Futures trainings as needed by the New Futures Training Manager.
  • In-state travel and some out-of-state travel required.
  • Position is in a hybrid office. In-person is required for some duties.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in political science, government relations, or community development from a recognized college or university is preferred. This position requires a minimum of two years professional work experience, preferably in government relations, political organizing, or community development.  Other qualifications include:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, networking experience, self-motivation, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and ability to work as part of a team, being a team player and collaborator.
  • Access to reliable transportation and a valid drivers’ license is required.
  • Ability to develop strong and effective working relationships with diverse and multi-cultural constituencies including New Futures’ staff, policymakers, advocates, and others.
  • Exceptional oral communication skills, including public speaking experience.
  • Flexibility to attend evening events as needed.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective internal and external communication, collaboration, and coordination with individuals and organizations.
  • Demonstrated skill as a grassroots organizer or volunteer engagement coordinator.
  • Familiarity with campaign strategy, political or community organizing, and the NH legislative process is preferred.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in advocacy.
  • Knowledge of MS Office with strong word processing, Excel, CRM, database, social media platforms, digital engagement tools, Zoom and internet research skills is a plus.

HOURS: This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position working 37.5 hours per week. The salary range is $50,000 - $52,000.

 About the Job

New Futures, New Hampshire’s leading health policy and advocacy organization, is seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Policy Coordinator to support and lead its health care access and affordability policy work.  New Futures is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works to solve problems through policy change.  The Health Care Policy Coordinator will work with New Futures’ policy team, as well as Communications and Community Engagement staff, to execute a comprehensive legislative and advocacy strategy in support of its health care policy efforts. This is a full-time, salaried exempt position based in Concord, NH. 

The individual in this position must be collaborative, well-organized, and have exceptional, demonstrated written and oral presentation skills.  The Policy Coordinator will be responsible for researching, developing and executing legislative strategies. The ideal candidate will have experience in health policy and knowledge of the political dynamics in New Hampshire. The Health Care Policy Coordinator will work collaboratively with New Futures’ policy, communications and engagement staff, strategic consultants and others to help advance New Futures’ policy goals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Convene and collaborate with stakeholders in the Health Care field, contracted partners, and New Futures staff to seek agreement on policy priorities, and to develop and implement a comprehensive legislative and advocacy strategy to achieve those priorities; 
  • Support research, analysis, communications, and advocacy efforts towards achievement of Health Care policy goals and objectives;
  • Track, analyze, and synthesize policy, legislative proposals, best practices, and research related to Health Care policy issue areas;
  • Support policies and strategies to expand access and affordability to health care for all New Hampshire residents; 
  • Assist in information gathering and analysis; conduct literature reviews and research using academic, online and other resources;
  • Assist with producing and distributing policy factsheets, briefs and communications materials, preparing presentations, drafting advocacy messages;
  • Represent the organization effectively before legislative committees, at stakeholder meetings, and build strong relationships with aligned partner organizations;
  • With New Futures’ Community Engagement staff, develop and deliver legislative strategy and advocacy trainings to advocates and partners;
  • Provide additional assistance as needed to support the communications, development, research, and administrative needs of other New Futures’ staff on issues relating to health care access and affordability.

Qualifications:

This position requires a minimum of three years’ professional work experience preferably in public policy or legal analysis, with demonstrated project management experience. An advanced degree in law, public policy or related field from a recognized college or university is preferred. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience. This position requires strong leadership and project management skills, plus the ability to work as part of a team.

  • Strong organizational and administrative competency;
  • Leadership and facilitation skills, including conflict and group management; 
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills;
  • Exceptional oral communication skills, including public speaking experience;
  • Strong analytical skills, and experience applying them to legislative, and/or budget projects;
  • Familiarity with public and private health care systems such as Medicaid;
  • Understanding and/or experience with health care policy implementation or program development; 
  • Demonstrated experience in effective internal and external communication, collaboration, and coordination with individuals and organizations; 
  • Demonstrated high-level skill and effectiveness at research, policy analysis, advocacy, and project management; 
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Ability to develop strong and effective working relationships with diverse and multicultural constituencies including New Futures staff, policymakers, and others;
  • Knowledge of MS Office with strong word processing, Excel, database, social media platforms, and,
  • Strong research skills

HOURS: This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position at 37.5 hours per week. Starting pay is between $76,000-$78,000, based on experience.
