NEW FUTURES APPLAUDS HOUSE VOTES ON CRITICAL LEGISLATION

CONCORD, N.H. – Earlier today, the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted to pass several pieces of legislation critical to the health and wellness of the Granite State.  Among others, the House passed HB 1280, which includes several provisions to address the rising prices of prescription drugs; HB 1245, which raises the tobacco sales age to 21; HB 1623, which supports and permanently expands telehealth services; and HB 1558, which supports the implementation of behavioral health supports in schools.

In response, Michele Merritt, President and CEO of New Futures, New Hampshire’s leading health policy and advocacy organization, released the following statement:

“With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, protecting the health and wellness of New Hampshire has never been more important,” Merritt said. “Prescription drug price relief, telehealth expansion, Tobacco 21, and behavioral health services in schools are all integral to keep all of New Hampshire youth and families healthy and safe, now and into the future.

“Recognizing the many health disparities among NH communities due to income, ability, geographic location, and many other factors, these four bills will go far to the promote health of all Granite Staters. Today’s votes represent important steps forward, improving health and safety by increasing access to quality and affordable healthcare, and by developing approaches to best meet the needs of individuals in our communities.”

Looking forward, these bills will now head to the Governor’s desk.

“We applaud the New Hampshire House of Representatives for recognizing the importance of protecting the health and safety of New Hampshire’s children and families and for the strong show of support for these four bills. We look forward to seeing them signed into law by Governor Sununu, and we stand ready to continue to work with our policy makers to improve the health of our friends, neighbors, and loved ones.”
