New Futures' Statement on Supreme Court Ruling on Affordable Care Act

CONCORD, NH – This morning, the United States Supreme Court dismissed a challenge to the Affordable Care Act, upholding the landmark health care law.  In response, Michele Merritt, President and CEO of New Futures, New Hampshire’s leading health policy and advocacy organization, released the following statement:

“The Affordable Care Act is the most significant piece of health care legislation passed in the United States in generations,” Merritt said.  “The ACA has ensured health care coverage for millions of Americans in need and has addressed long-standing inequities in health care access among our most vulnerable and under-served populations. The ACA has provided New Hampshire with our most critical tools for combatting the ongoing addiction and mental health crises.  There is no doubt- our state, and our country, are stronger and healthier because of the ACA. With this victory, we can confidently continue our collective work to build upon the principles of the ACA, improving access to quality, affordable care and strengthening our health care system for decades to come.”

New Futures is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that advocates, educates, and collaborates to improve the health and wellness of all New Hampshire residents. Last fall, New Futures released its Five-Point Plan for a Healthy State Budget. Learn more at  www.New-Futures.org.
